At Vickery Pediatrics it is our purpose to keep our patients informed on all levels. We wanted to share some important information on both Measles and Hepatitis A. There has been multiple stories lately about both.
What is hepatitis? Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver. The liver is a vital organ that processes nutrients, filters the blood, and fights infections. When the liver is inflamed or damaged, its function can be affected. Heavy alcohol use, some medications, toxins, and certain medical conditions can cause hepatitis.
The MMR shot is very safe and effective at preventing measles (as well as mumps and rubella). Vaccines, like any medicine, can have side effects. But most people who get the MMR shot have no side effects. The side effects that do occur are usually very mild, such as a fever, rash, soreness or swelling where the shot was given, or temporary pain and stiffness in the joints (mostly in teens and adults). More serious side effects are rare.
Informing the community of both Measles and Hepatitis A is something we feel strongly about. Happily serving Cumming, Alpharetta, Vickery, Johns Creek, and more Vickery Pediatrics has been helping children healthy from 0-21 for years.
